Fatal crash leaves MP heartbroken
Member of Parliament for St Ann South East, Dr Kenneth Russell, has expressed profound sorrow following a tragic motor vehicle accident in Roadside, Moneague, which claimed the lives of two young constituents.
The victims have been identified as Travis Smith of Alderton district and Davia Williams of York district, whose lives were tragically cut short on Sunday morning.
"These were young lives just beginning their journey, filled with promise, potential, and hope. Their loss is heartbreaking, not only for their families, but for the entire community."
As of December 12, a total of 357 lives have been lost in 312 fatal collisions across the island.
The MP issued an urgent appeal to motorists and all road users, emphasising the critical need for heightened caution amid dangerous road conditions across the constituency.
"Road conditions throughout South East St Ann remain extremely challenging," Russell said. "In many areas, lighting is inadequate, road surfaces are badly deteriorated, and visibility is poor. Speeding under these conditions places lives at serious risk."
He pledged to work directly with the National Works Agency to accelerate infrastructure improvements, including enhanced street lighting at strategic points, additional road signage, and the installation of reflectors in known danger zones.
"We should not have to lose lives before critical safety measures are implemented," he emphasised.
