Cops investigating suspected suicide of 57-y-o man
A medical emergency has now turned into a police investigation after a 57-year-old man died at the St Ann's Bay Hospital, two days after reportedly ingesting a corrosive substance in an alleged suicide attempt.
The deceased has been identified as Garfield Brown, a self-employed resident of Three Hills District, St Mary.
Reports are that on January 19, Brown allegedly drank a corrosive substance and later fell ill. He was assisted to the St Ann's Bay Hospital, where he was admitted and treated.
Despite medical efforts, Brown succumbed about 6:00 a.m. on January 21.
Police say they are treating the matter as a suspected suicide and are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The Retreat Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
