Play it safe in Reggae 6
THERE were no shockers on last Saturday's Reggae 6, which returned $9,073, the longest shot being 5-1 chance CUTOUT, who emerged as lone speed to land the fourth at seven furlongs against slower rivals, relaxing on the lead with visor and figure-eight removed.
BRISCOE always had a shot in the opener, winning at 4-1, returning to the round course at which he had won by 10 lengths in August before being outsped in back-to-back sprints at four furlongs straight.
This weekend's Reggae 6 could get tricky after the first three races, events which should also be treated with caution, using no fewer than two selections.
BOBBYTWOBAD is the speed factor in the Reggae 6 opener at six furlongs However, SOLACE was badly hindered at the half-mile marker in her last run, finishing fourth behind ABREATHOFFRESHAIR, BOBBYTWOBAD and TORONADO STEEL, straightening seven lengths off the lead at five furlongs round.
LOCKDOWN has the pace to track and beat rivals in the second at seven and a half furlongs. However, JOYFUL SURPRISE returns up in class on the back of a cracking run at nine furlongs and 25 yards, clocking a solid 1:59.2, a time which would beat non-winners of three races.
Richard Azan's experiment with blinders for SENOR BISCOTTI fell flat in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, beaten out of sight by WE JAMMIN, who he had pushed to the tilt when going down by a neck at seven furlongs in their previous meeting.
Blinkers removed, SENOR BISCOTTI clocked 1:08.1 at exercise for seven furlongs, breathing a sigh of relief with no blinders blocking his line of sight.
Go three-deep in the fourth by using THOUSAND TREASURES, THE REAL IDENTITY and EAZY PEAZY, who could make all at seven furlongs should he report sound.
Throw the kitchen sink and its plumbing at the fifth. Fire at will in the five-furlong straight event for runners who went through their three-year-old season winless last year and should be eyeing claiming events instead of waiting their respective turns among four-year-old maidens.
Close the Reggae 6 with another safe play, JON P, GENEALOGY, ALWAYS VIGOROUS and EL AFORTUNADO, who appears to be regaining form, running an even race behind LION OF EKATI and GREAT TRICK for third at seven furlongs on New Year's Day, his second outing off the claim.
